NJCDCA Board Members,
We are writing regarding today’s New Jersey High School Game Day Championship and the ongoing weather conditions affecting much of the state. First and foremost, we would like to sincerely thank you for the tremendous amount of work, planning, and dedication that goes into hosting this championship. We know how important this event is and how much effort is invested to make it successful.
Given the current conditions, however, we respectfully ask that NJCDCA consider rescheduling today’s championship to a later date. Many areas across New Jersey have received six or more inches of snow, precipitation is still ongoing, and forecasts indicate dropping temperatures and increasing winds later today. These conditions create increasingly unsafe travel circumstances throughout the state.
While the delayed start times were intended to help, many schools are now unable to participate—not due to a lack of commitment, but because districts have determined that travel is unsafe for students and staff. As a result, teams who have worked tirelessly for months to prepare for this championship are now being affected by factors completely outside of their control.
This situation impacts more than just the teams themselves. It affects transportation providers, custodial and facilities staff who must clear campuses, and families who are responsible for traveling long distances in hazardous conditions. School administrators are being asked to prioritize safety, and many have no choice but to restrict travel altogether.
Rescheduling this event would allow all qualified teams across the state the opportunity to compete on equal footing, under safer conditions, and in a way that truly honors the hard work, dedication, and commitment these students and coaches have shown throughout the season. It also honors the commitment that you all have made to the NJCDCA over the years to grow this organization for our athletes and will help to uphold the integrity of the event you worked so hard to create.
We understand the challenges involved in changing plans at this scale, but we believe that offering a new date would ultimately benefit the entire NJCDCA community and ensure that the championship reflects the inclusivity, fairness, and student-centered values that the organization represents.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and continued dedication to New Jersey’s student-athletes. We greatly appreciate your leadership and hope you will consider this request in the best interest of all teams involved.
