The signatories of this petition wish to express our concerns about the approach taken regards the Transformational Change Programme (TCP) in general, and the Phase Three IT Services and Estates & Facilities workstreams in particular.
We urge the Executive Board of the University of Bradford to make the following changes to the current (and any future workstreams) so as to support both staff and the institution.
The employer has stated that it is looking to minimise the number of compulsory redundancies. However, the decision to close voluntary redundancy for staff in scope before selection (a more restrictive approach to voluntary redundancy applications for the TCP in contrast to previous organisational changes at the UoB) can only make compulsory redundancies more likely.
At a time when the higher education sector is experiencing so many jobs losses, and unemployment in the UK is rising, for an employer that prides itself on its commitment to social mobility not to make the strongest attempt to avoid compulsory redundancies risks being seen as hypocritical.
We call upon the Executive to commit to take voluntary redundancy applications from the opening of the workstream(s) the implementation date(s).
The decision to not hold individual consultation meetings during the consolation process means that staff in the ITS and Estates & Facilities (and future) workstreams are being treated unfairly in comparison to staff that have been part of previous workstreams.
By refusing to hold individual consultation meetings staff in scope may miss crucial details of the proposed changes that may affect them (potentially including the loss of their job); potential discriminate against certain staff groups; miss feedback from staff that is to the benefit to the workstream; and worsen staff moral with equitable treatments.
We call upon the Executive to revert to the practice as in previous TCP workstreams and hold individual consultation meetings prior to the closure the consultation period.
