An open letter from students regarding mass redundancies at the University of Nottingham

Dear Lucy Powell,

We are writing to you to voice our concern about the ongoing threats of mass redundancies at the University of Nottingham.

On the 27th of July, the University of Nottingham management team spoke with the UoN UCU. They asked for more time to consider the counter proposals against FN2. Students and staff will be left in the dark about the changes until early October. Term began on the 21st of September. Going ahead with the current FN2 programme will leave over 600 full-time staff members redundant. The Departments of American and Canadian Studies, Modern Languages and Music will be permanently cut. These cuts are a result of poor financial decision making. For example, the acquisition (£37.5m) and redevelopment (>£40m) of the Castle Meadow Campus, a campus which will not be used and is now only valued at
