An Open Letter to Don and Moya Skillman, founders of WA Alliance 4 Kids

March 17, 2021

An Open Letter to Don and Moya Skillman, founders of WA Alliance 4 Kids (and regional sub-groups School is Essential, ISD Parents in Support of Safe Return to School, LWSD Parents Supporting Safe In-Person Instruction, MI Parents in Support of Safe Education, Monroe Public Schools Discussion, NSD Parents in Support of Safe Return to School, Open Puyallup Schools, Renton Parents for Safe Return to IN-PERSON Learning, Snohomish Parents for In-Person Instruction, Open Spokane Schools!, BF Community Coalition for Full-time, In-Person Education, Lewis County United for In Person Learning, PSD Families for School Choice, SVSD Parents in Support of Safe Return to School, Open Sultan Schools!, Parents of Sumner School District Taking a Stand to Getting Our Kids Back in School, and Thurston County Parents For Open Schools):

As concerned citizens of Washington, we urge you to publicly condemn the bullying and abuse of teachers that has arisen within your organization. Denying and defending these inexcusable actions, as you have done to date, is only continuing to fuel this cycle of abuse. Further, the shaming of teacher unions cannot be separated from this problem as unions are comprised of teachers.

As leaders of these forums, it is your job to moderate dialogue and organized activities to provide safe spaces for communities to gather. The hostility that you have condoned and encouraged has sewn the seeds of a hate group. We ask you to course-correct immediately, leading with kind words, kind actions, and by kind example. Organized hatred for our school’s teachers has no place in Washington.

Sincerely,
