Atwater Village Public Safety Plea: People v. Mario Bryan Rosado

Dear George Gascón (Los Angeles County District Attorney),

Senator Anthony Portatino (State Senate, District 25),

Senator Maria Elena Durazo (State Senate, District 26),

Assemblymember Wendy Carillo (State Senate Assembly, District 52),

Danielle Bond (Atwater Village Community Council, Chair of Homelessness Engagement Committee),

and Gilbert Berriozabal (Atwater Village Community Council, Chair of Public Safety Committee),

We write in reference to case #24CJCF04731, People v. Mario Bryan Rosado.

Over the past several months Mr. Rosado has terrorized our East LA community of Atwater Village. He violently assaulted and choked one resident on June 15th (LAPD case #24023878), chased a mother and her toddler down Glendale Avenue, throwing flower pots at their heads and forcing them to take shelter in a local bakery as onlookers called the police, and has committed multiple violent acts, including harassment, vandalism, trespassing, theft, physical assault, and burglary.

In mid-June, Mr. Rosado developed an obsession with our neighbors at 3965 Glenfeliz Blvd. He attempted to break into their home at all times of day and night, growing increasingly agitated and fixated on that particular house. The owners reported Mr. Rosado's behavior to the police, who took a trespassing report (#24030456), but were unable/unwilling to take further action. On July 26th, Mr. Rosado kicked in the home's front door. It was 4:30am and two small children (age 3 y.o. and 9 mo) were asleep in the house. There was an aggressive altercation in the living room. This was Mr. Rosado's 9th attempt to gain access to the house and family.

Mario Rosado has an extensive history of violent criminal behavior. His police file shows that Mr. Rosado has been arrested 19 times. 14 of those arrests were for felonies. That said, he has only been charged/convicted 4 times. In 2004, he was sentenced to 6 years in prison for burglary; In 2020, 3 years for assault with a deadly weapon; and in 2023, 12 months for another burglary + vandalism crime. He has claimed insanity twice– for which we have compassion– but any attempts by the system to rehabilitate Mr. Rosado have obviously failed.

Mr. Rosado's decades-long history of violence reinforces what we– the East LA + Atwater Village community – have observed in our neighborhood. Mario Rosado is a dangerous and violent individual. He is a threat to our community and to the safety of our children.

Mr. Rosado is currently in custody for the July 26th hot prowl felony at 3965 Glenfeliz Blvd. (Case #24CJCF04731). But given Mr. Rosado's ugly cycle of getting booked, getting released a month or two later, then immediately attacking one of our community members again, we do not have faith that the system will protect us.

If Mr. Rosado is released this time and he once again falls through the cracks of L.A.'s criminal justice system, we believe he will return to 3965 Glenfeliz Blvd and attempt to seriously injure and/or kill the residents. They are a lovely family with a beautiful 3 year old boy named Ziggy. Allowing that to happen would be the definition of a tragedy.

-- We implore you to do everything in your capacity to keep our neighborhood safe from Mario Rosado’s violence.

-- We ask that you connect the assault and trespassing cases referenced above to the 459 hot prowl burglary case in order to demonstrate to the court a clear pattern of Mr. Rosado's violence, obsession/stalking, and escalation.

-- We ask you to fight for a maximum sentence that includes rehabilitation efforts.

-- We ask you to keep our community safe.

As residents of Los Angeles we have entrusted you with protecting us from dangerous and repeat offenders. Mario Rosado has targeted our Atwater Village neighborhood. This is an opportunity to demonstrate the commitment to service you have pledged and work to keep us safe and alive. Thank you for your time and service.

Sincerely,

Atwater Village neighbors and Their Supporters.
