Dear Academic Study Board and SDU decision-makers,
I write this letter, on behalf of my fellow students, to express my discontent with the change in the exam procedure. From this semester on, we’re not allowed to use mobile phones to scan the handwritten notes. The solution suggested to us is to buy drawing tablets, digital pens or hand scanners. And while I understand the challenge to stop students from cheating during the exams, I don’t think it’s an optimal way to go.
It seems like an unsustainable idea, for each student to buy a piece of hardware that will probably be used only during the exams. And sounds absurd while the documents can be scanned with photocopiers all over the campuses or mobile phones. It also doesn’t align with one of the Sustainable Development Goals, which SDU pursues to follow – SDG 12 – “Responsible consumption and production”.
The other thing is simply the affordability of hand scanners. They might be an uncomfortable expense for some of the students - especially these still looking for jobs after the study start or unable to receive the SU grant. To keep the education affordable, I think this idea should be abandoned.
To solve the problem, I suggest a few solutions:
Yours sincerely,
