Dear Vice Provost Nickerson.
We represent a group of over 100 physicians and allied health professionals in the city of Windsor Ontario. Amongst our ranks are Alumni of the University of Manitoba health system.
We must add our voice to growing crowd of people and health care professionals who are appalled at the one-sided stance of the Health education Establishment not only in the Province of Manitoba but across Canada.
As your Valedictorian Dr Gem Newman correctly points out, not only does the ongoing genocide being perpetrated by the State of Israel represent an atrocity on a human level، the targeted and indiscriminate killings of doctors, nurses and aid workers by the State of Israel is an especially tragic corollary that we as Healthcare professionals and your graduates are deeply troubled by.
However Dr Nickerson, what is most troubling is your response which shows a possible disconnect and indifference to the plight of indigenous peoples across the world. Make no mistake Dr Nickerson, the Palestinians have been systematically purged and placed in reservations surrounded by concrete walls and barbed wire within which they are being bombarded and massacred since the Nakba of 1948 when European settlers came to ethincly cleanse and evict them from their homeland.
Dr Nickerson, we realize you are busy so let us not belabour the point. You have articulated the view of certain special interests and donors to your school and it is shameful. It does not represent the silent majority or even your current class of graduates.
We urge you to reconsider your statement and take back those words which are hurtful and may be interpreted as your institution being on the wrong side of history and the right to free speech in Canada.
Respectfully
Doctors of Windsor
