OPEN LETTER
Dear Mr. Rettman,
Tom Stoppard once stated, "If you aim to change the world, journalism is a more immediate short-term weapon." This perfectly captures the essence of your fearless investigative work—influential journalism that boldly exposes how far the global elites have strayed from their integrity.
Your exposé of how European politicians are enthusiastically lining up for a “handshake of death” with the Rwandan totalitarian ruler, General Paul Kagame, is a masterclass. The General’s thirty-year rule is synonymous with arbitrary killings and transnational repression against the Rwandan diaspora, including killings, kidnappings, and violence against journalists. But as you demonstrate, here are European politicos lining up to embrace him and bankroll him.
As a Rwandan human rights defender, I want to express my deep appreciation for your courage in speaking out for my countless fellow citizens who have been gunned down, tortured, stabbed, detained, beaten, or falsely accused of crimes.
The situation for the ruling elites in Europe appears bleak, and it's hard to find further commentary that would change that perception.
Bless your heart,
David Himbara
