FAO Bectu (Scottish Freelance Branch),
Assistant Script Editors, Script Editors and Script Executives are vital to the success of HETV production, and yet no Bectu rate cards exist for these role.
While we acknowledge that some productions make use of their independent production company's in-house Script department, those workers are protected by staff contracts, salary agreements, and in-house benefits.
In stark contrast, freelance Script workers contracted to productions for Prep and Shoot have been left without union support or benchmarks when negotiating fair and adequate remuneration for their work. As a result, Script workers employed under standard production contracts frequently find ourselves being pressured to accept rates that are, on average, on par with the most junior roles in other departments - which does not reflect the level of experience or the specialised skillsets expected of our roles.
We ask for Bectu to support its members who are freelance Assistant Script Editors, Script Editors, and Script Executives by developing an annual rate card for these roles, in consultation with us.
We request a response from Bectu by Thursday 1 May, to [email protected].
Sincerely,
Signatories as below.
