ICJ Ruling Affirms the Truth about Israel: Apple Must Act Accordingly

We are a group of shareholders and current and former employees who once again can not stay silent about Apple’s actions

On Friday, July 19, 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) delivered a landmark ruling that unequivocally confirms what many of us at Apple have long asserted, often facing adverse actions from misconduct warnings to termination for talking about it: Israel is an apartheid state. icj-cij.org/sites/default/files/case-related/186/1...

The ICJ has declared Israel's continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territories as unlawful. The Court is demanding an immediate cessation of all new settlement activities, the evacuation of settlers, the dismantling of the settlements and the wall, and the right of return for Palestinians who were forcibly displaced.

The ruling further states that Israel must make reparations for the damages caused to all natural and legal persons in the occupied Palestinian territory. It imposes an obligation on all states to not recognize the situation arising from Israel's unlawful presence, nor to provide any aid or assistance in maintaining this illegal occupation. The international community, including all states and organizations, must take action to ensure Israel complies and ends their occupation.

Apple quietly removed matching donations to Friends of the IDF. This is recognized as a good first step. However, Apple still matches donations to several other organizations that support Israel and its apartheid regime, some of which we detailed in our previous letter. These include some organizations that list Friends of the IDF as partners. This inconsistency must be addressed.

Our demands:

Apple has a responsibility to lead by example in the corporate world, ensuring that its actions are consistent with the principles of human rights and international law. It is time for Apple to take a definitive stand, sever all ties with entities supporting the apartheid state of Israel, and support the call for justice and freedom for the Palestinian people.

The ICJ ruling is a significant step towards justice, and it is incumbent upon all of us, including global corporations like Apple, to ensure that these legal and moral imperatives are upheld. Apple must do the work to remove all donations to Israel and its supporting organizations, thereby taking a stand against the unlawful occupation and the suffering it perpetuates.
