Let Us Play: A Call for Linux Access to Pokémon TCG Live

By GenNetEng

To The Pokémon Company International and the PTCGL Development Team,

We write to you not as critics, but as passionate Trainers. Many of us grew up with Pokémon. We collect the cards. We build decks. We teach others to play. And yet, some of us cannot play Pokémon TCG Live at all.

We are your Linux users. We’re developers, hobbyists, educators, parents. We contribute tools, guides, moderation, and media to the community—and right now, we’re locked out.

🛠️ PTCGL is built with Unity. Linux support is possible.

Your game includes:

UnityPlayer.dll, UnityCrashHandler64.exe

MonoBleedingEdge, Pokemon TCG Live_Data

These files confirm Unity as the engine—one that natively supports Linux. There is no technical showstopper.

What we face are:

❌ Error 15 blocking login

🔄 Launcher bug creating infinite language loops

🐧 No native Linux support

🖥️ VM usage required—unreliable and resource-heavy

💡 This isn’t a niche issue.

Linux users may be fewer in number, but we're high-signal contributors. We host tournaments, stream gameplay, support new Trainers, and invest in the physical card game.

Excluding Linux users isn’t neutral—it’s a missed opportunity.

🗨️ Your community is speaking:

“Any studio that blocks Linux users is making a huge mistake.” “I’ve been stuck for six weeks on launcher bugs.” “My kid uses Linux and can’t join the game.” “There should be a native Linux client.”

These quotes come from Reddit, Bluesky, and Pokémon forums. They reflect a growing frustration—and a fixable one.

📣 A Coordinated Signal: Join the Support Ticket Campaign

To ensure our voices are heard, we’re inviting Linux users and allies to submit respectful support tickets requesting native compatibility for PTCGL. These messages reference Unity’s architecture, community concerns, and technical receipts—alongside this letter.

📎 Ticket template: [github.com/GenNetEng/let-us-play/blob/main/README....] 📢 Volume matters. Let’s file together and speak as one.

🙌 All Trainers deserve a way to play.

We ask that you:

Explore native Linux builds via Unity

Consider Proton-friendly packaging

Offer clarity on platform support roadmap

Treat platform inclusion as accessibility and goodwill

We don’t ask for miracles—just the opportunity to play the game we love, on the platform we use. Please hear us. Please include us—and respond to the chorus of support tickets from Trainers who simply wish to play.
