Yorkshire folk have been insulted by these comments and the Yorkshire Party feels he should reflect on the tweet he wrote and apologise.
Lord Moylan's tweet in full
"I'm going to Yorkshire for a short break next week. Everything I've read recently in the @yorkshirepost makes me fear I'm going to find it transformed into a county of leftist whingers begging for handouts.
Let's hope that's not the case."
Lord Moylan.
You owe the good folk of Yorkshire an apology.
You posted on social media that you were to visit Yorkshire and you believed that you were going to find it transformed into a county of leftish wingers begging for hand-outs.
How offensive and hypocritical, particularly from someone who has been given the greatest hand-out of all: a peerage.
It takes some gall from someone who earns money just for participating in House of Lords’ business, on top of several outside paid interests, to accuse the hard-working people of Yorkshire of begging.
It would be interesting to contrast your own income, from your five ‘jobs’, with that of the average Yorkshire family.
Yorkshire taxpayers deserve a fair share from the taxes they pay, yet for decades our transport, education and many other services have received much less funding per person than have those in London and the South East. A fair share is not a ‘hand-out’.
Perhaps you will do the honourable thing, retract your statement and apologise.
