OPEN LETTER REGARDING WRITING ON THE WALL WORKERS FROM THE CREATIVE & CULTURAL COMMUNITY
We, the undersigned, are fully supportive of Writing on the Wall, its ethos and its work and want to see it prosper. Some of us have worked with them or spoken at their events over the past 25 years. We are very concerned to learn of the current position of four women of WoW who have raised concerns about their working environment. They are currently appealing a WoW decision not to uphold their collective grievances. We call upon the Trustees of WoW to use their best endeavours to bring about a fair and transparent resolution of this unacceptable situation.
Dear all,
Firstly, thank you for signing and sharing the open letter in support of the four women workers at Writing on the Wall.
Your solidarity has been powerful. The collective voice of the creative and cultural community has helped bring visibility, pressure, and credibility to this situation. It has made a real impact.
We are writing to share an important update.
Following the conclusion of the internal process, the four women have now been dismissed from their roles at Writing on the Wall.
This follows a formal grievance in which they raised serious concerns about their working environment and management practices, supported by statements from numerous former employees who described similar experiences. Despite this, their concerns were not upheld. Instead, they have been dismissed on the grounds of a “breakdown of trust and confidence”.
They strongly dispute this outcome. At every stage, they made clear their willingness to return to work and continue delivering projects in the community, while calling for a safe working environment free from bullying and harassment.
This is not the end.
The campaign now continues with renewed urgency. There are ongoing calls for:
Reinstatement of the WoW 4
An independent investigation into the management of the organisation
Accountability to ensure safer working conditions going forward
If you are able to, please continue to stand in solidarity:
Share the campaign within your networks
Continue raising awareness of the situation
Send messages of support via: [email protected]
Your support remains vital in what comes next.
Further updates will follow.
In solidarity,
Supporters of the WoW 4
