Dear Mariina,
A year ago you promised the CS2 community "immediate and meaningful changes in the way we approach the game’s development and our communication with you. We want to better involve you, the community, as we choose our priorities going forward".
Today, after several months of silence from Colossal Order, the Bridges & Ports DLC was cancelled with very little information shared. Just a 108 word update that briefly mentioned that "aspects" of the expansion weren't "as polished as they could be".
The update made no effort to acknowledge the frequent questions that CS2 players have about the game, from bug fixes and playability issues, to the long-awaited Asset Editor. Surely you had to know that the community would have questions?
While other games have endured tough launches, it has been clear and consistent communication with players that has built trust and led to a positive relationship between the devs and the fanbase.
Planet Coaster 2 is a great example of this. They didn't have the best launch, and there was understandable frustration from players, but a transparent roadmap and regular communication from the game team quickly got people on side. Players knew what was being worked on, when changes were going to happen, and how their feedback was being incorporated into the game. These are, essentially the things you promised us last year.
The regular updates for PC2 also temper expectations. If there are delays, the regular communications mean that players know in advance, they can get a better understanding of why the delays are occurring, and when they will be fixed. This builds enormous trust and has turned fans into advocates for the game and the dev team.
So, what's the reality with CS2? Why do we have to go months without any information, only to get a statement that gives no real information, creates more questions than it answers, and then we have to go back into a period of silence for who knows how long?
Please, please do better. Please communicate with us, and make that a two-way communication.
Right now there is a growing feeling that players have spent a lot of money on a game that still crashes far too often, is full of bugs, and which doesn't live up to the promises made by CO. Increasingly, the lack of communication makes it feel like we have another Kerbal Space Program 2 on our hands.
Please make good on your promise to communicate with players and involve us.
