Dear Sir Keir Starmer,
As one of many residents of RAF Scampton camp I would like to take this opportunity to express our need to get on with the redevelopment and renovation of this heritage site.
With £300 million pounds of private investment hanging in the balance, the prospect of a potential 1,000 new jobs in the area and the saving of this national treasure at stake I'm sure you can appreciate how desperate we are to save this once in a lifetime growth opportunity.
You yourself said that you would allow the redevelopment to go ahead and stop the inhumane asylum camp plan prior to the election. Your Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper stated that the proposed plan was, "Disrespectful."
Given these statements residents here and in the wider area of Lincolnshire are now wondering why you haven't yet followed through on this statement?
I've encountered many people who are understandably jaded from the frankly bullying behaviour of the last government, who think that these were just, "Empty words," cynically spoken to gain power, however we choose not to believe this.
We choose, for the moment, to take you at your word.
We choose to believe that when you said that you would end the duplicity and dishonesty in our political system and return government to service, that you meant it.
We choose to believe that this is a government committed to growth and that will support growth wherever it can, especially when that growth is privately funded and therefore a net benefit to the country and it's coffers.
In short we choose to believe that you meant what you said.
In these days of immense financial and societal challenges we as a country need to move forward, to put the last 14 years of decline and hardship behind us.
We need hope to be a thing again.
We have placed immense trust in you and your government not to just write us off as the last government did (And we all know how that worked out for them).
This redevelopment project has been put needlessly on hold for the past 18 months, it has almost had the life squeezed out of it for an ill conceived, poorly planned and incredibly expensive Tory vanity project born out of desperation to cover up the mismanagement of the asylum system.
We ask you to live up to the commitment you made to end this shameful pantomime and allow the redevelopment of RAF Scampton to go ahead immediately, to allow us to contribute to the overall growth of the countries economy and to get on with the job of saving this once in a lifetime opportunity.
As Churchill once said, "Give us the tools and we'll finish the job."
Yours sincerely,
Mr Jason Bayliss.
(A resident of Scampton).
