We are re-iterating the fired and unionised Saramago workers’ demands:
To date, six workers have been fired in a blatant union busting attempt. The fired workers are all members of the union Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) who had been organising to increase the number of staff rota’d on in the kitchen and front of house, to stop them being overworked. Clear and simple requests which have been met with an unjust and cruel response by Saramago.
As artists, audiences and event organisers affiliated with the CCA we recognise that our creative labour in turn supports the profits of Saramago, through patronage and custom.
We make this statement in full support of the workers’ demands and their union, the IWW.
