Request for Statutory Inquiry into the administration at Kingston Muslim Association Charity no 274503

Dear Esteemed Commissioners,

As community members and donors who collectively enable the functioning of the Kingston Muslim Association (KMA), we write to formally request your urgent intervention to investigate egregious governance issues that have come to light recently regarding administration of Kingston Mosque.

The founding trustee and original financier of this cherished local institution, Mr. Anwar Malik, has raised dire concerns about financial mismanagement, opacity in decision-making, potential conflicts of interest eroding trustee judgment, and more. These violate both governance policies as well as the democratic ethos of a charity existing to serve all congregants' interests.

Especially concerning are revelations of KMA funds being deployed towards legally prohibiting certain members of our community from even entering the mosque premises to pray. As stakeholders who contribute money expecting it to righteously further the mosque's spiritual mission, we unequivocally reject trustees wielding our donations to barricade us from our communal space instead.

A petition undersigned by 95 participants clearly communicating this refusal to the trustees has regrettably been dismissed with no course correction. As regulators entrusted with enforcing proper standards in sector administration, we implore you to urgently exercise your formal investigative authority.

The KMA trustees have abandoned their duty to steward our assets in line with donor wishes, making external intervention necessary to restore community participation, transparency and accountability. We support your inquiry and will assist through evidence provision if required.

We await redemptive measures that reorient the association's governance towards its founding ideals of inclusion and selfless public service.

Sincerely,
