Update 23 September 2025

Independent interim team proposed!

Dear signatories,

Over 6,000 of us have signed this petition, united in the desire to see a mass left party transform our society for the better. We all know the stakes are too high to allow the party founding process to fail because of factional battles. We are acting with urgency and hope.

--Proposed membership of independent interim team--

The Our Party initiative is pleased to announce the names of the proposed independent Interim Team, designed to safeguard the party’s founding process. Composed of key figures from across the left, the proposed team is an attempt to support the party founding process and prevent a collapse into factional disputes.

The individuals willing to step up as part of the Interim Team are:

  • Sarah Woolley, General Secretary, Bakers and Allied Food Workers Union

  • Kate Hudson, Former General Secretary, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament

  • Jeanine Hourani, Palestinian Youth Movement

  • Imran Khan KC, progressive lawyer, former solicitor to the family of Stephen Lawrence

  • Louise Regan, teacher, trade unionist, Palestine activist

These individuals have been moved by the same strength of feeling that have guided the organisers and signatories of this petition. They are all committed to delivering the election of a conference committee, to ensure that the founding process is completed. Importantly, collectively, its members are not aligned with any single faction, allowing them to act as neutral guarantors of the process. Now is a time for unity and stability, not fall outs and division.

We welcome the signs of reconciliation between Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana. However, repeated public disagreements among key leaders have weakened our movement, and cannot be allowed to continue. The proposal we are announcing is the only way to safeguard the path to conference, and, we hope, give the politicians space to heal their differences. We know they will play significant roles in our movement and party going forwards, but for now they seem to have run out of road.

By announcing these names, we are opening up a positive path forward. Everyone involved in this party wants it to succeed, but it’s time for members to have a meaningful role in delivering that success.

--Local groups are the backbone of this party: get in touch--

The most essential work to build Your Party will be done at the base, in local groups. We call on activists to bring emergency motions in local proto-branches to organise in support of this transition process, along with any other group or organisation from the movement with a stake in Your Party’s success.

We would like to be in touch with all of you in local groups, to hear your feedback and ideas. Please fill in this form if you are happy for us to contact you:https://forms.gle/2Rjz5K2P5MBXNxn77

--Who are we?--

This petition was initiated by activists from different left movements, co-authoring in a personal capacity. We are trade unionists, housing organisers, Palestine and trans activists, including:

Ben Beach, Your Party member, The World Transformed 2025 festival organising committee; Jan Baykara, Your Party Glasgow; Jeanine Hourani, Palestinian Youth Movement; Jonas Marvin, Your Party Stoke-on-Trent; Joshua Virasami, author and tenant union organiser; Lotta Powell, rs21, GMB rep (Islington Apex); Safieh Kabir, tenant union organiser; Siobhán Dhònnchaidh, writer and tenant organiser, Your Party Haringey; Tanzil Chowdhury, Queen Mary UCU, Branch Committee Member; Tom Cowan, Nottingham UCU.

We are not a faction, nor do we support a faction at the top. We just want to ensure that Your Party survives and grows into a mass member-led party. A party built by, and for, working class people across Britain.

In solidarity.
