Dear Andreas, dear AStA
The news that the CDU will be hosting a reception and dialogue with Wolfram Weimer at the Filmakademie on October 31 has caused many current and former students to feel upset, angry, and afraid.
We are concerned with the question of how the decision was made to host an event for a political party on the premises of the Filmakademie. We want to make it absolutely clear that we reject the presence of party-political events and influence at our institution in general — and this reception in particular. We do not want such events to take place on our campus.
The CDU as a party, and Wolfram Weimer as an individual, represent a political agenda that threatens our commitment to an open and inclusive society. This is fundamentally at odds with the core values of free art and culture and undermines the Filmakademie’s social mission.
We therefore call for a clear statement from the Filmakademie’s leadership affirming the institution’s nonpartisanship, as well as a transparent explanation of how this decision was reached. To clarify these questions and our position, we request a written response by Monday, October 20, 2025, at 18:00., and a personal meeting with the administration, following an open invitation to all interested students.
