Micheál Martin,
I as a member of the Irish diaspora/ a person of Irish descent am disgusted and enraged by the confirmed trip by the Taoiseach to meet with Donald Trump on St. Patrick’s Day. I vehemently reject any and all attempts by the Taoiseach to use the diaspora as an excuse and or reasoning for moving forward with this visitation on St. Patrick’s Day and think it is egregious to use our name to justify any meeting with this fascist administration. I strongly condemn any attempt to normalize the Imperial State and any relationship that supports it.
The massive Irish diaspora exists largely in part due to mass forced displacement and genocide and I find it distrubing the Micheál Martin finds it fitting to be meeting with an Administration actively committing these same crimes against humanity to millions around the world. The Imperial state is using the same systems and tactics that Irish people suffered under for over 800 years and it is a betrayal to our history and fight against Imperialist violence to now allow itself to become a puppet to U.S. Imperial interest while they actively threaten the sovereignty and lives of millions around the world.
Within the past year alone the Trump Administration has illegally invaded Venezuela, threatened the sovereignty of Iran, Canada, Greenland and across Latin America. They are attempting to facilitate a man-made famine by tightening sanctions on Cuba, they have illegally deported/interred thousands of people within the U.S including an Irish Citizen who has been interred in ICE custody for over 5 months and they continue to fund in mass, the genocide in Gaza and Zionist ethnic cleansing campaign in the West Bank. Accepting this invitation on St. Patrick’s Day spits on the graves of our ancestors and vindicates the Trump Administration of accountability and cements the belief that the U.S government is allowed to act illegally and inhumanely with impunity.
I demand the Taoiseach cancel any and all visitations planned on St. Patrick’s Day with the Trump Administration and take a real stance against the horrendous actions being committed by the U.S Government. I believe following through with this meeting would be a spineless act against Ireland and the Irish people all over the world and is a meeting that betrays the fight by millions for justice and peace.
